Module 6 introduces us to Isarithmic Mapping, which depicts smooth continuous data such as rainfall or barometric pressure. Isarithmic mapping, like choropleth mapping, is widely used and has been in use since the 18th Century.
The map created for this lab, uses rainfall data that has been interpolated using PRISM software. Hypsometric tints are useful in showing elevation differences, as indicated on the map. The blue and green colors show the increased rainfall at higher elevations and lesser amounts closer to sea level.
